Perfume and a Man’s Sex Life?

A sample study performed by Germany's DMAX television station reveals that the number of perfume flacons allows us to draw certain conclusions about a man’s sex life. To put it simply, the more fragrances found in the bathroom, the more frequently their male owner has sex. On average, a man will have between two and six different fragrances, but one in ten men possesses seven or more.

Many perfume names are sex-charged and read like portents for danger. Take for instance: Obsession, Passion, Addict, Poison or Opium. Perfume ads over the years have also been known to be lascivious and racy with promise of escape into a fantasy, a state of euphoria with just one inveterate spray. There’s YSL’s M7 full male frontal, Tom Ford’s perfumes placed in not-so-discreet crotch shots and of course Marc Jacobs’ aptly titled Bang fragrance campaign. One particularly erotically charged advertisement for the classic 4711 perfume depicting a crowd of glamorous women clad only with glossy cropped and bobbed hair and the scantiest of underclothes, caused outrage in the Catholic Church and forced a showdown between Peter Paul Muelhens and the Archbishop of Cologne, who issued an ultimatum that either the advertising was withdrawn or he would instruct his clergymen to preach against 4711 from their pulpits.
