Ben Shalom Bernanke born December 13, 1953, is an American economist, and the current Chairman of the United States Federal Reserve. Bernanke, a Republican succeeded Alan Greenspan on February 1, 2006 and was nominated for a second term by President Barack Obama in 2009 as the Chairman of the Federal Reserve.
