Posted
Friday, 30.10.2009

Kamakura period, 14th century
Steel; Lenght 26.2 cm

Yukimitsu is said to have been a pupil of Shintogo Kunimitsu. There are only five known pieces signed by Yukimitsu, all of them tantō (daggers). There are also some tachi (slung swords) attributed to Yukimitsu, but these have all been cut down from their original lengths, losing their signatures in the process.

At The Metropolitan Mueum of Arts
On view October 21 to January 10
